Plus 7 other mobility tech & connectivity headlines and developments
Happy Tax Day everyone! April 17 was the official last day to file your taxes this year and to honor this annual ritual we will be discussing EV tax credits, as well as which cars have been voted as the most loved for 2022, according to a survey by AskOtto. We also have seven other mobility tech and connectivity news headlines and developments that you won’t want to miss out on.
What electric vehicles can you buy to qualify for a tax credit?
There are a variety of electric vehicles that may qualify for a tax credit depending on various factors such as their battery size and capacity, the year of purchase, and the manufacturer. Generally, vehicles that are classified as “qualified plug-in electric drive motor vehicles” and meet certain requirements set by the IRS may be eligible for tax credits. The maximum credit amount available is generally $7,500, although this amount may vary depending on the specific vehicle and other factors.
If you are interested in purchasing an electric vehicle and want to see if it qualifies for a tax credit, you can check the IRS website for a list of qualified vehicles and their associated tax credits. Some examples of electric vehicles that may qualify include the Tesla Model S, the Chevrolet Bolt EV, and the Nissan LEAF, although this may change depending on the year and other factors. It’s also worth noting that the tax credit may phase out for certain manufacturers once they reach a certain number of EV sales.

Tesla, the world’s leading EV maker, is busy making $30 beer while letting its Cyber Truck fall behind production. The Texas automaker also is a no-show at this year’s main industry event for EVs in China. Tesla has not introduced a new model there since 2021.
The automaker is facing intense competition from local manufacturers: China’s top electric vehicle company BYD has not only overtaken Tesla in sales there, but is close to surpassing it worldwide. Last year, 107 new electric or plug-in hybrid models launched in China, pushing Tesla’s market share down to 10% from 14% in 2020. Meanwhile, the company is shifting gears to making more EVs in Mexico to ensure they qualify for customer tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act.
